Wi-vun Taiffalo Chiung
National Cheng-kung University
This paper examines the potential sound errors produced by Vietnamese learners of Taiwanese. Contrastive analysis of the sound systems between Vietnamese and Taiwanese was first provided, and experiments with 42 Vietnamese were conducted to see how the subjects produce and perceive Taiwanese sounds and tones. The results show that Vietnamese speakers are more likely to have sound errors in /ts/, /tsh/, /l/ and the seventh tone when they are learning the Taiwanese language.
